Werribee zoo

02 May

Last weekend we went to Werribee zoo. Because we are zoo members, the kids recently got lanyards in the mail for their details (name, favourite animal and parent phone number). There were lots of kids wearing them!

We love the safari bus, and most of the photos below were taken from the bus, but before we got there we saw meerkats and the gorillas. One gorilla looked very comfortable lying on his back in the sun in a wooden shelter, but then he found somewhere else under a tree, taking his bedding with him.

Hooded jumper

25 Apr

I made a hooded jumper for Toby recently, drafting the pattern by following the instructions from a pattern making book that I have been using. I need to make a few adjustments for next time….I need to lengthen it a bit, take some width off it, and make the neck opening smaller. However, considering I have never sewn anything like this before and had to work out how to put it together, I’m really pleased with it. 🙂

Easter egg hunt

09 Apr

Nathan was really excited that we were going to have an Easter egg hunt today. He remembers the one we had last year when he was 3-years-old and has been talking about it for a couple of weeks now. Toby didn’t understand what he was meant to do, so I helped him find the eggs.

Some photos from the last week!

Nathan adores dress-ups, and he found a bear costume at playgroup last week.

I don’t know why, but Nathan decided to set up a bed in the kitchen, and Toby thought it was a great idea.

I took a couple of photos of Toby feeding Angus Bear his breakfast of eggs on toast.

Andrew went to Perth for a few days and the kids and I took him to the airport. We found a mural on the floor of the international airport when we went exploring after saying goodbye to Andrew which the kids were fascinated by.

Counting in the Car

23 Mar

Nathan loves counting. He loves to sit in the car and count with me to 100, or 200, or whatever. It has taken him a while to work out what comes after the numbers ending in ‘9’, like 39, 49, 59 etc. He knows them now if he stops to think about it, but after 39 he does have to think. Nathan and I take it in turns to say a number, so I try to count the odd numbers so that Nathan has to practice working out what comes after the something-nine. Today he got stuck on 30, which is odd because he’s known that one for a while. We got to 29 and he said 20 10. No Nathan, think about it, what comes after 29. All I got was silence. Nathan, what comes after 29? I ask again. I finally ask one more time. Then a little voice says “30”. Toby decided to answer the question for Nathan! 😀

Playing in the car

26 Jan

I don’t like the kids playing in the car, but as always they have their own ideas on that and generally ignore my cries of “get out of the car”. I took some shopping into the house recently, came back for the next load and I saw two boys trying to program the GPS. I had to laugh and photograph….before yelling “out of the car!”.

Gingerbread Men

22 Jan

Last Import-15

Nathan had been asking to make gingerbread men for several days, and then we got a belated Christmas gift from friends…..and it was a mixing bowl with a packet mix for gingerbread men (including cutter) and decorations, and two wooden mixing spoons. The very next day we HAD to try out the mix.

It was certainly easy and, unlike the gingerbread men we normally make, they rose nicely and were a lot like the gingerbread men you buy in shops. Flavour-wise, they weren’t as gingery as we are used to, but they still tasted nice.

The mix came with a small packet of 100’s and 1000’s, so we had to make some icing so that we could use them. We aren’t exactly expert decorators, but we had fun. 🙂

Thanks Kate and co, for a fun morning of baking.

Too hot to sleep

02 Jan

Yep, definitely too hot. The kids have both stayed up late the last couple of nights because they just wouldn’t go to sleep….and even then it was a battle to get them to sleep! It took us all night to get them to sleep and it was the same last night too. Anyway, it’s midnight now, kids are in bed, it is still 32 degrees in the house and not much cooler outside. Blah. But time for me to sleep now.

Charlotte Pass

22 Dec

All Imported-201

Today we decided to drive to Charlotte Pass and walk the circuit track as far as the Snowy River crossing. When we got to Charlotte Pass the sky was looking quite ominous in the distance, and though there was an almost constant rumble of thunder we decided to do the short walk. It may have been short, but it was quite steep. Toby walked down but was carried up, Nathan walked both ways, and Andrew took our food, water and rain coats. It was a lovely spot, and we found some rocks to eat lunch on. The sky and thunder prompted us to return to the car park.

We went on the short walk to the lookout, and Nathan climbed on the rocks around the start of the lookout walk. We then went to Jindabyne for a few items, and then came back to the campground. It started raining quite heavily in Jindabyne, and it was very wet at the campground when we got back. I think we were quite lucky to not get a drop of rain at Charlotte Pass.
