Slide Boy

26 Jan

Andrew had some fun on the computer last night….after Toby had fun at the park a few days ago. He happily climbed up the stairs and went down the slide all by himself. He had been doing it for at least half an hour before a lady saw him at the top of the slide and sucked in her breath in fright. She obviously thought he was too young to be up there alone.

Sunday activities/Darjeeling Express

18 Jan

Last Sunday Iris came over to visit and we took her snorkelling.  She had never been before, and so we went to Clovelly which is a pretty easy sort of place to start.  We had a nice time in the water with the rest of the hoards, but it started to rain just as we were getting out.

We then headed to Newtown for dinner (Indian) and went to the movies.  Darjeeling Limited (hope I spelled that correctly) is the movie we saw.  It was a good movie, but certainly not one I’d recommend to everyone!  It was very strange with rather unlovable main characters, but I enjoyed it anyway.  It also had a strange music score, and yet it suited the movie well!  I thought it was very well done.

The lives of others

28 Aug

Last week Iris organised dinner and a movie at Govindas. Andrew and I had been talking about going back there, because we had such a wonderful time last time we were there. Unfortunately, however, whenever we were free there weren’t any movies that interested us showing there.

Iris decided to take her friend there, and invited Andrew and I as well. The food, as last time, was delicious. I just love the dahl soup they have, it is so very tasty. Then at around 9:15 pm we paid and went up to the cinema which has very comfy lounge-like seats. The movie was called ‘The Lives of Others’, and was in German with English subtitles. It was very interesting, and I really enjoyed it. It was set in the years before the fall of the wall in Germany, with the last bit finishing a few years after the fall. I loved the ending, too, it really was a perfect way to finish the movie.

La Vie En Rose

18 Jul

Andrew and I went to the movies last night to see the move La Vie En Rose, the story of the famous French singer Edith Piaf. It was quite bitsy, with the story jumping backwards and forwards in time, which meant that you had to concentrate to understand what was going on. But it seemed to work ok, and I really liked the movie….though I have to admit that I cried through a lot of it. Edith had such a tragic life, though in some ways it was also a life of excess! A very interesting movie, and one that made me look up more about her when I got home. Apparently she did a lot of work for the French resistance during WWII, but that wasn’t mentioned at all in the movie. All in all, I’d highly recommend La Vie En Rose, but if you’re a sobber like me, take plenty of tissues.

The History Boys

19 May

The Ritz cinema in Randwick has $7 tickets on Tuesdays, so last Tuesday Andrew and I went to the movies. In the two and a bit years that we’ve been together, we’ve only been to the cinema a handful of times, so it was quite a treat for us. After getting our tickets we had dinner at a Japanese restaurant, I had a terriaki beef bento box which came with miso soup…I really love miso soup!

I enjoyed the movie. Apparently it was originally a play, and at times you do get a sense of it being a play rather than a movie, but that didn’t bother me at all. There is a bit of a theme running through regarding homosexuality, and Andrew heard that in the play it isn’t as big a topic as it was in the movie, but I felt that it wasn’t really focussed on until right at the end. I did enjoy the play of words and expressions between the students and the teachers in the movie, and we got many a laugh from the movie as well.

It was a lovely evening. 🙂
