Beanie

One of the biggest problems I have had this winter (so far) is working out how to keep the kids warm when we are outside on cold days. My mother offered to knit Nathan a jumper to help with my dilemma. I believe it is coming along well, and we are looking forward to seeing the finished product. It is at least 25 years since I have knitted anything, but that didn’t stop me deciding that I would knit Nathan a beanie.

I searched for a free pattern online with instructions simple enough for me to follow. I decided that Bev’s Basic Cozy Hat would do the job. I took the boys to Lincraft and Nathan chose some multicoloured wool. The only problem with the pattern was that no tension was specified, and we didn’t get the right ply yarn, so I figured I would just wing it and see how I go. I knitted the pattern for 3-9 year old kids, using the needles specified but I used two stands of yarn instead of one. The hat seemed to work out ok, and Andrew helped me brush up on how to make a pom pom (Google knows everything) and within a day of starting to knit the hat was finished.

The end result was a hat that doesn’t really fit Nathan, but it does fit Toby. We dropped into Lincraft again today to get more wool for Nathan’s hat……he wants the same colours, so his hat will match Toby’s. I did try to get him to change his mind, but I guess that he chose his favorite colours the first time and it does make sense that he still wants them.

My next problem….trying to work out how to get Toby to leave the hat on his head!
